Puffy Hair Project: Need Help Choosing a Cover Photo…

I got so many fantastic photos for my Puffy Hair Project children’s book, it will definitely be out in time for the holidays.

p2 twirlMeanwhile, I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out the cover photo.  For mostly technical reasons, none of the adorable pics people sent will work.

So I have decided to license a stock photo, but still haven’t been able to find the perfect one. Here are several I like, but each has a challenge.  Please let me know what you think in the comments.

Project description below.

This girl’s smile is great, but I wish there was more dramatic volume to her hair.

I love the glint of mischief in this girl’s eyes, but you can’t really see a lot of the hair.

I love this image, but the book’s tag line is about hair that “defies gravity.” If only her hair were up in an afropuff…

Yes! Totally puffy! But she’s a little old for this book, which is pitched to the 0-5 crowd.

I love all of these photos!  And as you can see, there’s an abundance of neutral space in each picture to put the book title.

Can’t wait to read your comments!!

Here’s a description of the project:

“The Puffy Hair Project is a children’s book of text and photographs featuring kids, teens, adults, and families with naturally puffy hair.  It is designed to provide children of African heritage and other puffy-haired kids with positive images.  The Project was started by writer/performer/educator Aya de Leon to share a book she had created for her own daughter with other families and children.”

Even if you don’t have a photo in the book, there will be a personalization option  for you to send a pic of your kid or self or family, so your photo will appear in your personal copy!

If you’d like to purchase the book when it becomes available, follow me on this blog or on twitter @AyadeLeon for updates.
